The Montreal Dermatology Research Institute (MDRI) is pleased to announce Dr. Maryam Piram and Dr. Elena Netchiporouk as recipients of its 2025 grant program for research on dermatological diseases.

Dr. Maryam Piram is Chief of the Division of Pediatric Dermatology at CHU Sainte-Justine and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Montreal. Dr. Piram is a pediatric dermatologist with extensive training in pediatric rheumatology, a dual expertise that underpins her strong commitment to studying diseases at the crossroads of dermatology and rheumatology. After completing a five-year residency in pediatrics and dermatology, she pursued two subspecialty fellowships: one in pediatric rheumatology in France and another in pediatric dermatology in Canada. She also holds a Master of Public Health and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Paris-Sud.

Her research program is dedicated to clinical research in childhood vasculitides and systemic autoinflammatory diseases. She is particularly interested in the epidemiology of these rare conditions, as well as in developing outcome measures and patient-centered tools to better capture disease activity and quality of life.

Dr. Piram worked for more than ten years at the French National Reference Center for Autoinflammatory Diseases (CéReMAIA) at CHU de Bicêtre, where she contributed to several international collaborative studies. Since moving to Canada, she has established specialized clinics dedicated to children with autoinflammatory diseases and vasculitides at CHU Sainte-Justine. She also leads the Canadian initiative SkinSAIDCanada. Through her clinical and academic leadership, Dr. Piram is committed to advancing research and improving care for children with rare systemic inflammatory diseases with skin involvement.

Dr. Elena Netchiporouk completed medical school at Université de Montréal, followed by dermatology residency and a Master’s in Experimental Medicine at McGill University. After one year in community practice, she joined the McGill University Health Centre in 2018 as Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Director of Undergraduate Medical Education. Her clinical focus is complex medical dermatology, orphan diseases, and immune-mediated skin disorders. She co-directs specialized clinics in urticaria/mastocytosis, oncogenodermatology, and skin fibrosis, where she mentors trainees.

In 2020, Dr. Netchiporouk was appointed clinician-investigator at the MUHC Research Institute with 50% protected research time. Her research explores risk factors and mechanisms of immune-mediated dermatoses and genodermatoses. She continues to provide community dermatology care once weekly in underserved regions of Quebec.

She has published over 170 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals including JAAD, JAMA Dermatology, and Lancet, with an H-index of 32. She currently serves as Quebec Regional Director for the Canadian Dermatology Association (2024–2027).
