The Montreal Dermatology Research Institute (MDRI) is pleased to announce Dr. Zhuo Ran Cai and Dr. Carolyn Jack as recipients of its 2024 grant program for research on dermatological diseases.
Dr. Zhuo Ran Cai is a dermatologist at the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) and a clinical assistant professor at the Université de Montréal. He is also a clinical investigator at the CHUM Research Centre. His research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence as a triage tool in dermatology and the interpretability of its algorithms. Dr. Cai earned his medical degree and completed his dermatology residency at the Université de Montréal. He then completed a two-year research fellowship at Stanford University, focusing on digital health and the use of artificial intelligence in medicine.

Dr. Carolyn Jack (MDCM, PhD, FRCPC) is an Assistant Professor, Dermatology, at McGill University, and a Junior Scientist in the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). In 2018, Dr. Jack founded the MUHC Center of Excellence for Atopic Dermatitis, the first tertiary care centre in Canada dedicated to adult atopic dermatitis. Dr. Jack’s clinic has been recognized both nationally and internationally for its patient engagement platform, and she is the co-founder of EczemaQ, an award-winning mobile health application. As an FRQS Clinical Research Scholar, her research goal is to identify disease-modifying interventions in chronic atopic dermatitis.
